Renan is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (Jura Bernois).

Renan has an area of 12.6 km2 (4.9 sq mi). Of this area, 60.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 33.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 5.5% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.1%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3] The high valley of Les Convers, in which marshlands the Suze takes its source is located on its territory.
Renan has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 851.[1] As of 2007[update], 8.5% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 1.1%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (70.6%), with German being second most common (25.8%) and Italian being third ( 1.1%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 36.8% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (18.1%), the Green Party (16.9%) and the FDP (15.8%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 21.9% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 59.7% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 18.4%. In Renan about 60.2% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Renan has an unemployment rate of 1.27%. As of 2005[update], there were 87 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 28 businesses involved in this sector. 41 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 10 businesses in this sector. 111 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 13 businesses in this sector.[3]
